South Korea launches the world's largest commercial 5G network that can download entire movies in less than a SECOND
South Korea is preparing to launch the world's largest super-fast 5G mobile internet.
Friday's launch will see the service go live across the country in 85 different cities and users with 5G-enabled devices will be able to download data 20 times faster than existing 4G.
US rival AT&T became the first in the world to lunch a commercial 5G network in December 2018 and is currently available in 12 US cities.
South Korea's 5G network is expected to let users download entire movies in less than a second and paves the way for faster video streaming as well as AI and VR powered products.
Customers will need to have 5G-enabled devices in order to use the service, with the upcoming Samsung S10 likely to be a popular choice in the tech-savvy country.
The news comes on the same day as a study found that the economic benefits to the UK could be up to £15.7 billion ($20.66 billion) by 2025 if 5G's roll out is accelerated.
South Korea is in a race with China, the United States and Japan to market 5G, with firms like Samsung, Huawei and Apple pioneering 5G tech.

5g will operate at 800+ GHz. So that's 800 billion microwaves cycles hitting the human body per second. Yes that's right 800+ billion with a b. Mediate on this for a minute.
